Bank of Hawaii
Bank of Hawaii Training Center
Honolulu, Hawaii
Interior Architecture
BACKGROUND:
As part of their overall strategy to increase efficiencies of their existing properties and to provide added benefits to their employees, Bank of Hawaii engaged Ferraro Choi to turn their former full-floor printing and server room into a multifunctional office, training, fitness center and juice bar.
DESIGN CHALLENGES
A major challenge for the existing space was minimal access to daylight except from two light wells on the East and West side of the floors. Also desired was direct access to the Bank’s upper floor cafeteria and use of its existing outdoor break area.
PROJECT PROGRAM:
The main program requirement was to provide five employee training rooms with support offices for ongoing training, new hires, and Bank functions. A new fitness center with showers was added to encourage employees to be active and healthy and to increase worker productivity and satisfaction.
DESIGN CONCEPT
The overall design concept was to create a functionally low-maintenance yet light and airy space. Designed light niches with indirect lighting address and help to make up for the lack of natural light. A new elegant almost translucent staircase now provides easy access to the floor above to the Bank’s existing cafeteria and outdoor break area.
