2X2 – Ferraro Choi X Urban Works Exhibition
Please join us for a special gallery exhibition:
Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 6PM-8PM @ UH SoA – Haigo and Irene Shen Gallery, UH Manoa Campus
Description:
Despite Hawaii’s geographical isolation and unique identity, we are all familiar with buildings in our community that might easily be found anywhere else in the world. This recurring dilemma of placeless-ness offers architects in Hawaii a valuable opportunity to explore how we can sustain our local identity while still recognizing that we remain part of the greater world.
A regional design approach to architecture strives to create meaningful, mutually beneficial relationships between people and place. In essence, built form should:
-
Connect us with nature and our surroundings.
Connect us with local history and culture.
Connect us with each other.
Connect us with the joy of our experiences.
These aspirations and constraints inspire each architect to develop a building design in harmony with its particular place.
2 X 2 exhibits two projects each by two local architectural firms, Ferraro Choi and Urban Works. Both firms share the University of Hawaii as a client but with campus designs for very different locations. The other two projects are designed for different clients but share the same location of Kaka’ako in Honolulu. The exhibit displays the similarities and diversity in synthesizing client desires with project location.
