Mark Ayers AIA, LEED AP
Senior Project Architect
Mark Ayers has been promoted to Senior Project Architect from Project Architect and has been with the firm for nine years. Ayers was the designer for the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology Laboratory on Coconut Island and Lahainaluna High School Cafeteria, and is currently the design architect for the Stevenson Middle School Science Center.
Ira J. Freeman AIA , ArchD, NCARB, LEED AP
Project Architect
Ira Freeman, has been promoted to Project Architect from Architect. Freeman has been with the firm for eight years since completing the University of Hawaii’s School of Architecture Doctoral program, and is currently working on the Shriners Hospital for Children and the West Hawaii Explorations Academy (WHEA) projects.
Marie Shanks, LEED AP
Interior Design Project Manager
Marie Shanks, has been promoted to Interior Design Project Manager from Interior Designer. With a Bachelor of Interior Design from California State University, Sacramento, Shanks has 10 years of working experience, which includes a wide variety of commercial and residential experience both in large-scale international and smaller-scale boutique projects. Shanks joined Ferraro Choi in 2010 and has worked on projects for the General Services Administration and the law offices for McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon LLP.
Kurt Katada, IIDA Associate
Director of Interior Design
Kurt Katada has been promoted to Director of Interiors from Senior Interior Designer. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from the Pratt Institute, Katada has been a member of the Ferraro Choi team since 1996, and has recently worked on the law offices for Alston Hunt and the Center for Excellence project at Bank of Hawaii. He designed and managed the first LEED Gold certified project in Hawaii, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Honolulu Chapter Office and has also directed other national and international award winning projects for Ferraro Choi. Katada serves as a guest critic at the Chaminade University Interior Design Program and is an associate of the International Interior Design Association.
