Molokai General Hospital

Project Size:
34,200 SF

Ferraro Choi teamed with rural health care specialists Smitthipong & Rosamond Associates, Inc. of Tucson, Arizona in the renovation and expansion of Molokai General Hospital (MGH). The collaboration was structured to provide the highest level of healthcare design expertise and experience to the client.

The only hospital on Molokai, MGH had had no significant improvements since its founding in 1963, so the renovation and expansion provided much-needed upgrades to both facilities and services.

To maintain ongoing hospital operations throughout the construction phase, the renovation needed to be performed in two phases.

Phase I involved the construction of a new in-patient services wing. The 11,200 square-foot addition included a new emergency department, radiology department, in-patient bedrooms, and labor and delivery rooms.

Phase II involved the renovation of the existing hospital building to accommodate administrative and support services.
