Island of Molokai, Hawaii

Originally constructed in the 1960s, Molokai General Hospital is the primary source of healthcare services for the rural island community. The Molokai General Hospital project involved master planning for the renovation and expansion of their present 23,000 square-foot facility.

The project is multi-phased, with provisions for the existing hospital to remain operational throughout the construction phase. Phase I involved the construction of a new in-patient services wing, an 11,200 square-foot single-story addition southwest of the existing hospital. The $7,500,000 Phase I hospital expansion included a new emergency department, radiology department, in-patient bedrooms, and labor and delivery rooms. Construction of the Phase I expansion commenced in March 2004 and was completed in March 2005. Phase II involved the renovation of the existing hospital building to accommodate the administrative and support services.
